Working Together to Open Doors to Healthcare

Gateway to Care is a 501(c)(3) collaborative comprised of  over 165 public and private safety net health systems, coalitions, advocacy groups and social service providers working together to assist the approximately 2.2 million medically indigent residents in the Greater Houston Area in receiving medical care at the most appropriate setting.

Since 2000, Gateway to Care, has served as a vehicle for increasing access to care for the uninsured and underinsured, originally under the auspices of the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services and later the Harris County Hospital District. We have grown from 6 members to 174 member and affiliated organizations throughout the region working together towards the vision of enabling 100% access to healthcare. Membership in the Collaborative is available to any organization in Harris and its contiguous counties. Funding was initially received from the Health Resources and Services Administration Community Access Program to develop navigation services, support expansion of enrollment into Medicaid and CHIP, start a nurse telephone triage, facilitate development of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and develop a Provider Health Network in Harris County. We work with organizations at a grassroots level to increase access to care for individuals. In 2006 we became an independent Not for Profit organization
